In 1969 theologian David James Randolph wrote this about the relationship between art and Christian theology:
In some of the work of [French Fauvist/Expressionist Painter] Rouault
there is a beauty which is translucent; through it passes the light of
God. The riches of theological insight afforded by contemporary artists
are unlimited.
This site exists for the purpose of exploring this relationship between art and theology in which God’s light passes through popular media and works of art.
We observe the media our culture produces, including film, television, music, advertisements, celebrity culture, video games, and reflect on how these narrative and aesthetic objects are consumed, used, and appropriated for the construction of our realities. And we ask what the relationship might be between this and theology - how does the “light of God” shine through our popular media? Does it at all?
